Rigid ball bearings can accommodate radial and axial loads in both directions. Due to their low frictional torque, they are suitable for high-speed applications. These bearings are particularly suitable for applications calling for a low level of noise and vibration. Rigid ball bearings are classified by type, as indicated below.

A specific amount of grease is integrated into the sealed bearings.

From a size and function standpoint, double-row rigid ball bearings correspond to a pair of single-row ball bearings.

This type of bearing must not be used if alignment faults are to be corrected.

Rigid ball bearings generally come with a pressed steel cage. Machined brass cages are used for large bearings and high-speed applications. For certain applications thermoplastic or thermosetting resin cages also exist.

Single-row, rigid ball bearings allow for slight misalignment of the shaft and housing. The acceptable misalignment fault for this type of bearing depends on the dimension of the bearing, the internal radial clearance after assembly and the load on the bearing. Generally speaking, angle values of 2 to 10 minutes are acceptable.

Double-row, rigid ball bearings only allow for very slight misalignment of the shaft and housing.
