Spherical thrust roller bearings support high axial loads. The oblique arrangement of the raceways also allows these bearings to accommodate radial loads, not exceeding 55% of the axial load.

This type of bearing is self-aligning. At high speeds, spherical thrust roller bearings should be subjected to a minimal axial load to offset the effects of centrifugal force on the rollers.

 

Cages:

Type "E" spherical thrust roller bearings are equipped with pressed steel cages. Other bearings have a solid brass cage.

Acceptable misalignment:

For spherical thrust roller bearings, the acceptable misalignment depends on the dimensions of the latter but is from 1° to 2° under an average load.
